Take it Like a Woman

There is just too much wrong going on in this video for me to address, from the dishes in the sink while a chemical process is being done to the way she is applying it. Take it like a woman? I am not anti-relaxer, I believe you have to do what works best for you, but it is NOT for me. SMH.

I hope to never have to see a relaxer in my child’s head…but if she does decide to get one as an adult I will make sure that she does it the proper way. There are some things in life that I will teach my daughter that she needs to “take like a woman” but this is not one of them. I feel her pain too. I have very coarse hair but a very tender scalp when it comes to chemicals. As a result any time I got a relaxer it burned the fire out of me almost immediately upon application but I would always endure the pain as long as I could because I wanted my hair as straight as possible. When I got tired of the whole process I went natural for the first time.

I’m with you Alicia, I’m tender headed both with the scalp in general. I used to suffer the same way. The mild or sensitive scalp relaxers in the salon would not get my hair straight and even with base, I would burn immediately. I too, would sit and bear it for the sake of straight hair. I learned to do it myself in high school and found a method that resulted in straight hair and LESS burning, but I still burned. This whole scene just make me cringe and shake my head. I don’t think I would ever go back…and if the thought did cross my mind, I would watch this video again.
