Recipes: Sweet, Cold Treats

By  |  0 Comments

It is super hot outside and on my way back home from the Farmer’s Market, I passed a Rita’s…mmm…Rita’s.  The thought of a sweet and cold treat made my mouth water.  I have a big sweet tooth and it takes a lot for me to keep it in check.  I rationalized that one treat wouldn’t hurt me.  It’s not like I indulge in stuff like that everyday.  Yeah, just this one time.  I deserve it.  It’s so hot and I need to cool down.  I made an immediate left turn into the parking lot…of a Publix.  No, I told myself.  I will not consume 5 million calories and 3,000 grams of sugar and who knows what else, just because it is hot outside.  I will use my very expensive blender instead to make something cold and sweet.  I ran inside Publix and emerged with a couple of bags of frozen fruit.  I went home and made a thick and sweet smoothie and some “ice cream” the next day.

Berry Smoothie

Ingredients:
1 bag Yoplait Smoothie –Triple Berry
1 tbs Agave Nectar
1 cup Orange Juice

Directions:

Add all of the ingredients to a high powered blender, adding the orange juice first.  Blend until smooth and serve immediately.

Note:  A high powered blender that can crush ice works best for this.  If your blender has a hard time crushing ice or frozen foods, try adding a little more orange juice.  If it becomes to thin, you can add a banana or yogurt to thicken it back up.

Tropical “Ice Cream”

Ingredients:
2 cups of Dole frozen fruit (Strawberries, Mangos & Pineapple)
1 tbs Agave Nectar
1 cup Soy Milk
½ cup Coconut Cream

Directions:

Add all of the ingredients to a high powered blender, adding the orange juice first.  Blend until ingredients are mixed, but not completely smooth and serve immediately.
